Big Freeze Coming?

Adventure Location: Decatur, Al

Today's Date: 10-16-2022

The OFM woke up this morning feeling not quite right so we put the walk off for a bit and went to the grocery store to add stock for the BIG FREEZE coming Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Many of the folks here in the RV Park are worried that their pipes etc are going to freeze during the BIG FREEZE. On fellow asked what the OFM is going to do. We told him sleep until it warms up about 9am that morning and then take my morning walk. He looked at the OFM like he was crazy.

What this freeze did is make up my mind about pushing our rolling date too close to the operation date. There is more going on than just cataract surgery. We are also fighting the trauma damage to the right eye. So the OFM decided to take the trailering mirrors off Sierra until we get settled more firmly on a rolling date. The mirrors add too much width to Sierra and get in the way sometimes in this town designed for small cars.

Here are the trailering mirrors sitting on the couch right after removing them.

This shot is the right side mirror of Sierra without the mirror sticking out over a foot extra.

We feel sure we are looking at until just before Christmas as an earliest leaving time. If we will be that late in the year we would prefer to wait until after new year starts and all the tow trucks and repair mechanics are back on the job.

During the late walk today over at a park pavilion we saw this chalk ellipse on the concrete surrounding a picnic table. Has anyone got and idea of what was going on here?

Meanwhile the OFM has been trying to learn to handle water color pencils to do water color paintings. Here is a glimpse of the junk he has done lately. It is a lot harder than he imagined to get ANYTHING to come out right.

That is about it for tonight. Everyone get some great rest so you can have plenty of energy for trying to have tooooo much fun tomorrow.

  1. Those chalk marks look like a well organized line! I know...no help at all :-)
If you're in the area you may get a nice Christmas dinner invite from someone ....

  2. Oh my. They must have watching the weather guys on tv. It's ALWAYS serious. Freezing!! But they don't say how much and for how long. Well, I suspect you will survive with your current program for doing so. Here, we at least will have some cooler air...though the promised rain hasn't really panned out yet. Sigh.

  3. What most folk do not realize is my trailer was built to handle zero degree weather that Washington State gets up in the mountains so I do not have the same worries as the usual RV.

  4. I think that is a cakewalk - I remember doing it back in '61 or "62 at our school carnival. You walk around the circle with others while music is going. When the music stops you stop on a square, someone draws a number and if you're standing on the number you win a cake or some prize. Don't Wiki this as they have some other explanation but I did find it somewhere else thata confirmed I wasn't nuts.

    >>From the mid 1900s, a game at a fair or party in which people walk around a numbered circle along to music. When the music is stopped, the caller draws a number from a jar and whoever is standing on or closest to that number that number wins a cake.<<

    1. I remember cakewalks from when I was in elementary school in the early 50's. Thanks for the memories.
