This morning the OFM awoke to face his fears and concerns. We had cleaned the inside of the Castle enough to have an idea of where the leaks that showed up yesterday came from. So all the OFM had to do was get out in the hot humid outdoors and get up on the roof and clean and caulk the areas we think were failed. Falling off the roof would not be fun at all and the OFM has become an expert at falling down in the last year. But he is our only option during the holiday weekend. So he did it. He climbed the rear ladder just fine and even transitioned to the roof OK. But standing on the roof and walking near the edge with nothing to touch to help balance was not ok. So now he knows how to crawl around on the roof fairly safely. And he does not like it at all.
Any way he made his way from the rear of the trailer to the front edge. The caulking showed aging so he cleaned the dirt off and wiped the old cracked caulk clean. Then with magnificent care new caulk of about eight feet was applied along the front roof to siding seam. This part of the job went well except for the 94F heat in the bright sun. He checked all the caulk lines and touched up a couple more of them. He is getting pretty good at slithering like a snake up there. Back at the ladder he slithered pretty well back onto the ladder and eased back to the ground with only one small knee scrape. Amazing. We are getting rain again tonight and we hope no more leaks show up. There were several other men on roofs with caulking guns today.
After cleaning the area the OFM went inside the AC to rest for a while. Yep a thirty minute nap happened also. From that was a trip to a burger and the grocery store where he forgot to grab a bag of salad mix. But he did grab a nice group of pork chops to cook in the future.
Coloring was started up again since it was 97f outside. We did that for a couple of hours and the OFM eyes got tired so we quit.
This evening the OFM decided to try for a campground tour.
This is the office all decorated up and ready for the big holiday.
The celebration events schedule is posted so folks can attend if they choose.
Here is a typical RVcamping group getting their fire going.
Next is a trailer with decorations to enjoy.
And now the OFM has to get busy with supper and keep an eye out for leaks.
Maybe the weather will be better tomorrow for trying to have tooooo much fun.
You WERE a dare devil. Glad you survived. Sheesh. Hope you have NO leaks. Seems like there should be a reward for risking life and limb.
ReplyDeleteI hope your knee injury recovery is coming along well.
DeleteGlad you Safely caulked those pesky leaks. I have been using a Roof Sealer. Its white colour helps reflect the heat as well as getting rid of leaks. the beauty is it lasts for years.
ReplyDeleteCooling down in the AC, while doing your artwork, is a great way for having tooooo much fun.
Be Safe and Enjoy!
It's about time.
I'm not a fan of getting up on the roof anymore, sometimes it has to be done.. I'm glad you wrote this one from your Castle and not some hospital bed :-)
