Tomorrow morning starts the OFM Teams fifteenth year of mobile living. We rolled out of Richland Washington early that morning heading for Harvest, Alabama to celebrate being free spirits finally.

This morning started a little slower than the last few and we kept it slower for the whole day. An old friend Ed stopped by on his Harley to say Howdy and we had a wonderful visit.

The OFM Teams hit the fishing pier again and did a lot of casting. We did get two fish onto the pier decking.

The first one was a good size skipjack. It hit hard as usual and the fight was on. This rod set up had never been in a good fight before but the 10# braid line and 14# mono leader did a great job. We are guessing that the fight went on for about seven minutes and four strong runs by the fish. It did not give up easily when landed on the pier decking. After all the flopping was over we finally got the picture.

Getting the hook out of that boney mouth was a bit of a chore but the fish was happy to flop right over the edge back into the water.

A few minutes later we landed a speckled trout that was an inch short of legal. It was a frisky one though.

Now we will show you why you should never try to “thumb” a saltwater fish to land it. All the salt water fish have teeth to remind you of the big mistake “thumbing” one is. This is the close up of the front fangs on even a small trout.

Those teeth will easily penetrate your skin/meat to provide an entrance point for all sorts of bacterial active stuff. On top of all that mess, those teeth have a habit of breaking off inside your fingers. Other species are strong enough to just bite your fingers off. Overall it is better to keep your personal body parts out of a saltwater fish's mouth.

And we have one more picture for our readers.

WINDOW OPEN

Notice the open window on the truck. The owner parked at the foot of the pier and headed on to the pier to fish. What he did is leave an open invitation for seagulls and other birds to ramble around inside the cab of the truck tearing things up looking for food. When they do their little ramble the mess they leave, including body excrement, is an not very nice event. This is definitely not a good way of trying to have tooooo much fun.

  1. So I keep learning stuff. Do not leave my car windows open when parked near a beach or other sea gull habitat..and never thumb a saltwater fish. Whew. That's a lot for one day.
