When the trail called this morning we were ready to cover some ground for a change. The brisk air coordinated with a brisk pace for the whole 2.75 miles without a bench stop. It was great to say the least.
Good clear weather allowed lots of seeing of things along the water front. On top of that several folks on the trail were ready to spend a few minutes visiting for a change. That was really nice. One foolish event happened.
As we neared the end of the OFM walk a new notice was posted on a gate post. There is an off road race to happen and we are asked to not be on the trail from 8am to 12 noon for a big event for several schools.
That is a nice notice and most folks are very happy to give the trail to the high schools for the event. But whoever wrote the note left our one important part of the notice. They did not tell us what day the event is. So sometime before thanksgiving it is likely we will see lots of runners on the trail racing some unknown day.
One of the spots we pass that is alongside of the trail is this small golf course water hazard. It ties into the big river system that is a bit over two feet low. So now we can see if there are any golf balls on the bottom to try to retrieve.
Another neat spot along the creek is were a heron hides in a laid over tree. From there it launches its attack on small meal size fish that swim under the foliage of the tree. Suddenly a Heron size monster comes out of the tree and grabs a fish and also scares the dickens out of any walker close by to the event. Most of the time the women squeal and the men say a dirty word or four from the surprise.
And at one spot in the whole walk today we found some fall foliage showing off. We got the picture and here it is.
And that is about all of the bright colors we found on our route today.
We got ourselves a stuffed baked potato with pork for supper for the next two nights. That is under $5 a meal and tastes as good as a $50 meal to the OFM.
OK it is time to get busy getting rested up for trying to have tooooo much fun tomorrow.
