New Survey Point

Adventure Location: Falcon Lake State Park Texas

Adventure Date: 2-2-2023

Incredibly busy day with the adventures slamming the OFM Teams around again and again. The cold had us bundled up and the cloudy sky helped keep us shivering for our first walk here for this trip. We are camped at the first site near the restroom and one of the interlocking trails starts in between the campsite and restroom. We took it and it turned out to be a good place to start.

The area surprised us in that the ground was all dried out and ready for us after all the rain of the last couple of days. As you can see from the trail picture, the ground is dry and the vegetation is freshly washed and not dusty.

We had barely got going when the OFM called a halt to look at the shrubbery around us. Everything was sprouting new growth. Here is a few of the things. Check out the bright yellow blossoms. There is a high growth rate on it apparently since lots of area is covered with them.

Right next door on the adjacent plant was all this fresh growth shoving winter out of the area.

Not to be out done another adjacent plant is putting out red seed pods with fresh brown/gold stickers on the sides.

And we finally got moving again. As we exited the growth area there was a new survey marker that had been installed since last year.

Apparently a couple of counties intersect at the marker. Just guessing the OFM guessed that it is only about three miles to the Texas/Mexico border out in the lake from that marker.

We went on past the loop road to the picnic area parking lot and then down to the picnic tables to check the view for future sunset pictures. This is also an area where in the past there has been lots of very twisted tree/shrubs and many of them are still there.

We think some of the twisted stuff might make it into some colorings in the future.

Yep we still have a lot of things to do for trying to have tooooo much fun including naps.
