Birds On The Brain

Adventure Location: Rockport, Texas

Today's Date: 5-02-2022

Last year the bird breeding season was going along well when a weather event knocked it all out for 2021. All the nesting stuff was suddenly gone and the OFM was wondering if any birds would show up this year. The answer is yes they did. And the beach park has big areas set aside for the birds to do there breeding and child raising.

The relatively new section is a huge chunk larger than it was last few years. And the birds seem to be making decent use of the new area. Here is one of the barricades on the access roads to the area.

We get a huge amount of photographers taking pictures of everything the birds are doing. But the authorities have to be diligent at keeping the hordes of folks back from the birds far enough for them to do their job. Here is a picture of the normal nesting area on the loop road of the Beach Park.

A new location this year is along the Allegro Channel. A large bunch of migratory birds have set up housekeeping in that location.

This close up shows how densely clustered this particular breed of bird is along the strip of grass near the channel.

Personally we are thrilled to see the migratory birds and seagulls get some good help this breeding season. Birds are a necessary and desirable part of our ecological system.

When you have been working hard at trying to have tooooo much fun, a little bird watching certainly feels good.

  1. The older I get the more I enjoy watching birds. Our Texas coastal birds are the best. I recently read this fun fact - Brazoria County (up the coast a bit) has more species of birds than any other area in North America. I am glad Texas had the foresight to set aside wildlife management areas especially for birds.

    1. Try black skimmer. Caspian Terns are white on top according to the Internet reference I found.
