Scooting

Adventure Location: Decatur, Al.

Adventure Date: 7-02-2021

The morning walk was started early but stopped after about a mile due to dead calm, high humidity and too hot temperatures.
This time the OFM recognized the first symptoms immediately and we got turned around headed back at a gentle pace to the A/C in the Castle.

We got busy with checking on the leak area and decided that a roof exam was required. As the OFM gingerly climbed the ladder to the roof, he wondered if it could be done and how much a four foot high handrail could be installed around the Castle's roof. The OFM would feel much safer with one installed. But knowing him, he would tear it off with a tree limb pretty quickly.

Meanwhile he slithered around on the roof checking things out. The junction box is under a solar panel so it does not get direct rain impact. Therefore the leak must have come from water running across the roof of the Castle.

After careful exam of the junction box and a forgotten previously used mounting point, we found three possible leak cracks in the 15 year old caulk. So new caulk was properly installed in those three spots and a few other not perfect looking locations.

Nope the OFM was not wobbling around on the roof to do this. He was demonstrating his vastly superior ability as a scooter arounder.

The rest of the roof level caulk seemed to be in good shape. So the solar panel was re-installed and the tools gathered. Then the very careful OFM made his way to the rear ladder and made it safely to the ground.

And,yep, the OFM had forgotten his camera to document the repairs and the condition of the rest of the caulked seams and to show proof he really did fool around on the roof.

The rest of the day was spent in letting his joints eat Ibuprofen and recover while he worked on a new colored pencil painting as a way of trying to have tooooo much fun.

  1. I am glad you forgot the camera! Scooting around on the roof was less hazardous without it!

  3. I have to admit that getting up on the roof of the RV is a lot more careful action these days than it was 6 or 7 years ago.

  4. But it’s a beautiful day in Alabama- low humidity and temps for early July. Tomorrow, the Fourth, the weather is supposed to be just as nice.

  5. Very good to see you survived your roof expedition. Sheesh. Hope the next rain results in now leaks. After risking life and limb. In humid weather and heat. Sheesh. I would be resting on my laurels. Which are a prize for achievement. It's an odd expression, but I like it. Looking forward to your new method with the pencils....
