OFM Acrobatics

Adventure Location: Rockport, Texas

Today's Date: 4-11-2022

The OFM was over at Fulton Tx to check out how the waterfront was doing with all the high winds and surf. We got parked at a midway point for a nice walk around the harbor area. The first stop was the short jetty at the main bait shop. The wind and the waves made getting a picture a bit of guess work as to when to trip the shutter. Here is our best pics of the mess.

From here we headed to the far end where we fish frequently to check out the water and waves situation. As the OFM got to the nice public restroom for the area he decided since the large tea for lunch was a while ago a stop might be a good idea. When the OFM exited his mind was already at the fishing hole and thinking.

We made a few steps with his mind elsewhere and suddenly we were doing aerial acrobatics of the undesired kind. As he was heading toward the concrete in a high speed crash dive, he recalled the high curb he had forgotten about. His first thought was “this is going to hurt a bunch”. His next thought was “ Yep it sure does” as he was laying there face down on the concrete realizing he was still alive since he could feel the pain. Next he slowly started moving things to get a list of broken parts he was bound to have.

Then the sound of a car stopping near him and the sound of folks getting out of the car. The OFM got his head turned and an older couple had seen him go down and drove over to assist him. They helped the OFM check for bad injuries or significant bleeding. They assisted him in important ways to make sure he was thinking well.

The gentleman asked where OFM was going. The OFM told him the plan had been to circle the convention center for a nice walk but now he was going back to his truck and get back to the safety of his trailer.

By then the OFM was sort of sane again and the wonderful helper said that it seemed to be a good idea to him. Would I like them to follow me home? The OFM declined and told them he had some friends near that he would go visit them until he thought it would be ok to go home. We parted company and the OFM headed to his friends trailer. The OFM could tell he still was not clear headed yet and hit up the friends place for something close to an hour as his head cleared the fuzzies out of it.

The good news is that on inventory the OFM has two skinned knees. Several bruises on his arms and right hip and a bit of right hip joint pain. Overall this OFM feels extreme lucky that he failed to do severe damage to himself. This getting old and living alone is getting kind of dangerous it seems. We definitely need to up our awareness to be safer in the future. We still have a lot of trying to have tooooo much fun to accomplish.

  1. Bad news! It's good you can walk & type about it... Falling down gets scarier as I get older.

  3. Ah geez. One second, and a whole new scenario. Sounds like you came out of this one. One of the worst things I think about getting old is no longer being fleet of foot. Or even SURE of foot. I've found that each fall removes a wee bit of confidence. Bummer. But every time you get over one without a bad ending is yahoo, they won't get hold of me this time. So you've made it another time, and I'm glad.

    1. I think that the Army infantry training and learning the Airborne Roll has saved me a lot of times in my non-army life. Whether I am a Yahoo or a yeahoo is still to be determined.

  4. And this is why we can't do dangerous (normal) things at our age without a buddy. I am writing this a little later...but I am hoping you have healed from that fall. You must be eating enough Calcium in your diet, as your hip could have met a tragic moment. Someimes when I am out on my bike by myself, I think about this things...and but I am still ready to have toooo much fun. By the way, was over to a bike shop today, and they relayed that the Long Haul Surley that I have can be converted into a gravel bike, just like you said...so I am going to take it in this week. Thanks for the advise.
