Adventure Location:
Point Mallard Campground
Decatur, Alabama
Date: June 8, 2023
After a good nights sleep we awoke to a nice cool morning. So the OFM ate his breakfast and declared him ready and able to head out for a nice walk this morning. And shortly away we went towards the golf course. That path is paved the whole way and he wanted to be gentle with his damaged left foot.
We made decent time and along the way a very nice lady walked with us and discussed her thoughts of going full time Rving. We gave her the OFM Adventures blog name to contact that fool for more info. Then she turned on the speed and we waved goodbye to her. The OFM kept count today and he met seven new folks over all.
As we neared the turn around point at the big Point Mallard sign the OFM noticed that the big pine cones tree was producing lots of them this year.
The OFM photo'd one in his hand and there were some slightly larger ones inside the fence that we could not reach.
Here is a nice picture of the tree from a bit along the path so we could get all the tree in the pic. The tree is actually on the golf course.
Surprisingly we made the whole walk with only minor pain which made the OFM hope that the left foot trouble was over. Later in the afternoon there was more pain again but less intense so we hope we are on the right healing track to get over this foot trouble soon.
Now and then the winds in the campground cause a bit of trouble with awnings. My friend Earl found a solution to his awning trying to flap hard enough to rip off. Check the brace that mounts on top of his slide-out and rests against the awning. The OFM will be talking with him to find out how well it has been working. It seemed to be working well on the day of the picture.
.
Just as a forewarning, the OFM has some thoughts in his head about using this location as a home base style setup and doing some exploring in this SE part of the USA in the next travels. It might have some value. On top of that, we don't know what it means yet but he has been looking at winter temps in this part of the USA. This was precipitated by us being stuck here until January of this year by his eye repairs and finding the weather pretty nice temperature wise. You never know what that knuckle head will come up with for trying to have tooooo much fun.
Looks like a beautiful spot. Stay safe

It is a nice area. Thank you.
DeleteWhen I'm curious about an area's climate I take a look at Weatherbase.

Not perfect but it's usually enough to get me a good idea.
Good luck!
thank you very much.
DeleteHello Barney, I'm glad you've got settled in for a while. I'll be exploring the Tennessee River Valley from Shiloh to Knoxville in the next several weeks. That would be the exploration area you're talking about if you use Point Mallard as your home base. Maybe I'll stumble on some place for you to check out. Take care.
