ADVENTURE LOCATION:
DECATUR, ALABAMA
POINT MALLARD CAMPGROUND
NOVEMBER 6, 2024
The morning walk was very nice and several friendly folks and the OFM exchanged howdies on the trail.
Then after lunch we stopped by the office to check on mail and see what is happening.
As it turned out a big thing was happening. Here is the two notices for the campers of changes coming as of today. If this is really enacted then when we leave on 11/17 we will not be able to stay here for more than a couple of days in the future.
Being
able to effectively receive mail and parts shipped in boxes is
crucial to RV travelers. At this time no shippers UPS, Amazon etc
will roam a campground looking for site numbers to deliver packages
to. And if they do find a site the box will be left on a porch steps
or lying around on the site someplace without any weather or squirrel protection.
Regular mail is in the same predicament. We have no idea what is the
big plan but it is not looking good for now and the immediate future.
I guess we will find out when we attempt to come back in a few
months to visit the grand kids again..
We have been Rving since 1972 and this will be the first time we could not receive mail or packages at campground we stayed at safely. This applies to Point Mallard Campground in Decatur Alabama. We hope they come to their senses soon. Good night.
Whoa. That new rule is probably not going to go over well.
ReplyDeleteNeither the US Post Office nor the shipping companies will make deliveries inside a campground or apartment complex anywhere I have been except the central mail point in the facility. It will be interesting hearing what the USPS has to say to the simple person trying to make them deliver door to door in a 241 sites campground. But I will be gone by then (Nov,17).
DeleteWOW. That is just not logical. Is that a park decision or a post office decision? The reason I ask is, if it is a park decision they might change their mine by the time you get back if/when many regulars move to other campgrounds. I can't see any of those delivery services driving around a campground to deliver their packages. They don't have time for that.
ReplyDeleteIt is a park person decision. The US post office had not been involved at the time of my posting,
DeleteWell then, by the time you get back I bet they will have mail delivered as it is now, back to normal.
ReplyDeleteWhen we travel out to "Rocky" near Ft. Collins, CO we rent a mailbox, ($15/month), in town and ship everything there. Each week or so when we go in to grocery shop we swing by and pick up our goodies. It's $60 for the 4 months we're out there. It's worked out great for us over the years. You may find something similar nearby you. If you love other things about your park, (walking trails, water nearby, friendly transients), it might be worth your while. Linda
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda. I have done that in the past when down in Falcon County Park near Roma Texas. Works well.
DeleteSounds like it may be a legal liability issue since they reference medicines. Something screwy happened for sure. Good luck on your upcoming travel date.
