First Day of New blog

MADISON, ALABAMA

6/30/25

The facility here is assisted living by definition, not nursing home. For the most part you can come and go as you wish. A careful head count is always maintained and works out well.  It is like having one bedroom apartments to live in. Cooking is done in a main kitchen with meals provided three times a day.  Over all it is a decent set up.

Events of all sorts are held frequently and generally well attended and residents families are always welcome to visit kids and all. Plenty of parking is available so you can have your vehicle here with you. Visitors seem to have plenty of parking also. Over all you will see, if I can get pictures to post again, that overall it is a nice place to live while getting yourself back together. Once again I am waiting for picture taking to be working.

Your laundry is washed for you once a week and the living area is vacuumed and the bath gets washed down early in the week. Mail is delivered to your unit after arriving at the main reception desk. Ambulance service goes to the front door.

Big Update Today

 MADISON ALABAMA

6/29/25

Now we try to update every one on the last few weeks of happenings. First off the OFM has cleared out the Castle and Sierra from his life. We now reside in an assisted living facility in Madison Alabama.  Yesterday the Castle left here with its new owner headed for south Alabama . Sierra the truck of many adventures left the area with the same new owner today. So the old team has new excited owner.

The OFM is having aging things happen to him, He is 78.8 years old now.  We decided it was in our best interests to come off the road for now .  We will see which way life knocks us and report it right here now and then.

NEW DAY AND NEW PLANS

 MADISON, ALABAMA

6/25/25

Today was interesting. A choice was made that the OFM needs to quit the blog. So here is the official notice that the OFM blog is over. Thank you for all the support for over twenty years. It has been fun. Good bye.

KEEPING WARM

MADISON, ALABAMA

6/23/25

It has been interesting during the OFM travels how many men and women are into quilt making while traveling. The OFM has been around quilt making for over forty years he thinks. It is very popular in campgrounds where folks stay a few days to several months. This assisted living facility is carrying on the legacy of the quilt making. Tonight I got to look at a few that are under construction. Most are being made for friends or relatives.

I do not have pictures tonight but soon hope to be putting pics in the blog report.

On my side of things, this evening my latest test results seem to indicate at least six months more treatment on my brain to help me regain proper brain functioning.

My son and I are planning on selling the truck this weekend since it will be several months before I will likely be allowed to operate a motor vehicle on public streets again. That is about it for all the good news tonight. Have fun running wild while you can.

Good Night

MAJOR NEW CHANGE

MADISON, ALABAMA

6/22/25

DISCUSSIONS with my son about my age and driving led to him asking me to quit driving.  I had already made this trip here my last towing trip and had been thinking about motel style travel in a vehicle.  Research on the internet led the OFM to places to check my self for decent driving. The OFM failed in several categories. So tonight it seems appropriate for me to quit driving public roads now at 78.75 years old. So once again my motto on the top of the blog first page

DON'T WAIT  DO IT NOW  seems very appropriate .

I still will see if I can scratch out a blog without the travel of all the previous editions. Good Night

HARD WORK DAY

MADISON, ALABAMA

6/21/25

Ok folks it has been some rough working days and some less than the best health days but it is all working toward getting a daily blog going again.  Cleaning up a totally disrupted life style is a huge job the OFM is realizing.  A major step in cleaning up some legal troubles and getting some other personal paperwork for a somewhat new style of RV free life accomplished has been accomplished. Hopefully  getting pictures back into the blog will happen soon. In the meantime the OFM is healing well from several things and even though it is taking a lot lonnger than we originally thought, this blog will return to active action eventually. More details as they happen.

SOME ENTERTAINMENT TODAY

MADISON, ALABAMA

6/17/25

Tonight we had just sat down for supper in the dining room and getting a good start on the conversations when the fire alarms sounded off all over the building. Several folks jumped into action. We later learned the facility has specially trained teams for all sorts of emergency events.

First response was to get everyone seated again. Then they brought together a fairly organized evacuation to pre planned waiting areas. That was nice to see in action.

In the meantime another trained team headed to the area the fire alarm system said had a fire event in progress. They could not find any trouble in that area. The evacuation got a bit more organized and orderly and the head counts started. There must have been ten repeated head counts especially for the disabled diners. Shortly later the fire department arrived and went through the building room by room to verify the situation.

Finally the building was declared fire free and reentry started very very orderly. The OFM got back to his meal and continued his eating. By the time the meal was finished everyone had pretty well calmed down.  Folks went on with their evening plans as originally planned.

So we had a bit of special entertainment to keep us entertained at supper tonight.

CASTLE IS GONE

MADISON, ALABAMA

6/14/25

We got over to the rv storage right on time this morning to show the Castle to a potential new owner. He turned out to be a wonderful fellow with great attitude who wanted it for his father and him for fun and games outdoors. After showing him the Castle's good and not so good points he told me they wanted it. So we finished up the deal and the Castle will soon be his. He is coming by in the next few days to pick the Castle up and take it home to southern Alabama.  The OFM could not be better pleased with the new owners. Good by sir Castle it was a great 20 years. Have fun with the new owners.

BAD MEDICINE

 MADISON, ALABAMA

6/12/25

SEROQUUEL is the name of the drug the OFM was injected with back in Texas the first night of the mess I am in now. There is too much bad about it to quote it all here. Please look it up and stay away from it totally. The good news is that I will likely recover from it totally but it may be a few months. Discussions with some medical folks is even more scary than the internet sites. So there you have it folks. Tomorrow I get to go see my grand daughter preform in a stage play and am very excited to see her acting abilities. Good Night.

EXERCISE

Madison, Alabama

6/11/25

Today I went to physical rehab class that I am assigned to for getting me in better physical condition. By the time they let go of me I was a whopped puppy dog. Unless a miracle happens over night I will have to get them to ease off a bit until I heal a bit more. Things are going well in the healing department but still I need a bit more healing time.

My son thinks he might have the Castle sold to a coworker of his. That would be nice to get finished with. RV rolling days are definitely over with for me. But I am looking forward to new adventures when I am all healed.

Have fun folks and be safe.

JUST A COMMENT

MADISON, ALABAMA

6/10/25

Ok here is a little update.

Insurance has me getting treatment to help me heal  from some physical difficulties of my muscles working right. I also am being treated for some mental less than right stuff. Yes I can tell I have a bit of trouble thinking correctly.

As things happen I will report them as best as I can interpret the information. The treatment for balance is definitely strenuous but very helpful. I apologize for the haphazard presentation of this information but that is the best I can do these days. I will keep reporting and thank you for reading. When I learn again to get pics from the camera to the computer we will have pictures too. Please be safe every one.

CLEARING STUFF FROM THE HOUSE

MADISON, ALABAMA

6/7/25

It was another fuzzy headed day with occasional moments of flat out stupidity. Apparently my head is still having some trouble clearing the garbage drug from my head. I did get out with the camera to grab a few pictures but cannot figure out how to get them from the camera. My son and his family is due in from their European vacation tonight so maybe we can get some help soon. Sorry for the mess.

Quick Summatipn

MADISON, ALABAMA

6/6/25

Here is what caused the whole mess. The OFM got an intestinal infection. It was treated with  a drug that has the effect that you are not allowed to drive on public roads while it is in your body. Only now is the OFM starting to recover from the drug. It is not known how long it could take to clear out of his body. So the computer trouble will continue as the OFM slowly gets a clearer head. I am still foggy all around tonight.  Goodnight.

UNPACKING DAY

 MADISON,  ALABAMA

6/5/25

Well we got mostly unpacked today but we have one more stuffed chair to move into the room tomorrow. Then we get to make adjustments to our living situation for the next several months as the healing continues. Our hope and plan is to be able to take and publish pictures as early as tomorrow. But I cannot guarantee that yet.

The facilities are pretty nice and the food is decent on the bad days and very good on the good days.

Some have asked for a more complete story but I do not have a complete story known to me. However I promise I will tell as much of the whole sordid story that I can remember. I know I have empty  large gaps in my knowledge including taking  on two guards while in the hospital and totally out of my mind. From the report they filed, apparently I have not lost all my self defense ability I was taught in the Army in prep for combat in Nam.

I am supposed to visit my treatment doctor the last week of this month to get going on healing my damaged self.

It does seem to me I am finally on a healing path and I am really glad. Sleep well folks.

Tomorrow is big day

MADISON, ALABAMA

6/3/25

We had a good day of body healing and getting better. Tomorrow we hope to get everything ready to start getting the Castle donated to charity and clear of our concerns. Soon we hope to be back to real blogging again, Then the fun will begin.

To the best of my guessing I probably will have several more months on this no driving business before things get to normal.

However today I was looking around this place and think there are several pictures we should be able to make some neat stories about.

Thats it for tonight and another day of many more healing days to go. Sleep well because I likely will need good advice about future decisions.

MADISON ALABAMA

MOVED INTO NEW HOME

MADISON AL.

6/1/25

We feel moved into the new home now but just barely. Photos and more tales will be forth coming as opportunity allows.  More medical  things and some little furniture shopping coming soon. The Castle needs to be gotten rid of. Things can move better when the OFM gets clear of his medical restriction against driving so he can get back on the streets. Everyone please safe.
