Running On Water

Adventure Location: Rockport, Texas

Goose Island SP sticks out into the mouth of St. Charles Bay. St. Charles bay has a lot of shallow fish infested water in it. The down side is that as you get well into the bay near the inflow creeks there are alligators to keep you company at times. Most locals do not do any wade fishing up in that area.

The scaredy cat OFM has never waded in that upper area. During this visit to the area the OFM took Sierra down to the Big Tree area. Sierra pulled over on the grass to allow two pictures to be taken to show the style of the area.

This picture was taken looking to the left of Sierra at the cattle pasture near the water.

Cattle waiting for excitement
Without moving Sierra, the OFM turned to his right and took this picture through the windshield of a brave man. He was about a quarter mile out there.

The OFM has a friend that quit wade fishing this area about three years ago after years of wade fishing there. He was out there in waist deep water when a alligator of about six feet came swimming along and grabbed his stringer of fish. My friend quickly released the stringer and ran across the tops of the waves back to shore to never get his feet wet in the area again.

The OFM does occasionally fish along this shoreline but never enters the water. Playing with alligators in their home waters is not our idea of a good way of trying to have tooooo much fun.

  4. I used to live in a fish-camp on the Pascagoula River in Mississippi. The gaters sure were hard on pets and we didn't wander around after dark without a good strong light!

  7. I don't even like to see a real live alligator. Years ago on my 1st trip to Florida we went to Gatorland. That cured me - they just seem to have such evil looking grins!
