Adventure Location: Lake Amistad, Texas
There was much anxiety about the Truck this morning. The
Teams could only hope the dealer’s shop would do what they said they would. So
the OFM spent a lot of time walking around the area. Since his fishing rod and
bike riding helmet were in the Truck at the dealers, it left him his rubber
personnel carriers for playing.
He headed across the lake bottom in hopes of finding
something interesting. A couple of miles later he was back empty handed and
with an empty camera. A least it was
good exercise.
Then he took to wandering the campground. At one point he
wandered all the way out to highway 277 and the entrance road to the
campground. With the gray day, it is not an inspiring view but it is very good for bike riding.
At least along the roadside were lots of small flowers of
all sorts of colors. This species of succulent was putting out nice red fruit that
is a beautiful red.
Finally about 1406 the call came in that the Truck was
ready and my ride into town was on his way.
A few minutes Fry arrived and got the OFM back to the shop. The service writer, Johnny Joe, took care of
me well and gave me very intelligent answers to my questions. $650 later the
Truck was hauling the Teams back to the Castle.
It feels really good to have wheels again. Here is a picture of the new alternator in
all its grand glory.
BB and the OFM went into town for a celebration supper.
It was pretty good as was expected. Then the Truck took us for some meandering
so the OFM could get a warm fuzzy feeling that the Truck was really
repaired. Everything seems to be just
right again.
EDIT 2/25/2013 From this experience the GMC dealer’s shop cannot be recommended. It is know know they lied to me very well. The price was over twice what it should have been. They told me only rebuilt alternators were available. New ones are readily available. On 2-26-2013 the alternator is having to be replaced already. BAD BAD Dealer .

Now for a good night’s sleep and another exciting day of
trying to have tooooo much fun. TheOFM.
Glad to see you're back up and running, it's hard to roam when the truck is in the shop.
ReplyDeleteYep feels really good to have moving wheels again.
DeleteToo bad it was not something silly and cheap. Now you have a new serpentine belt and I would guess a new tensioner to go with that new alternator. You should never wear this one out.
ReplyDeleteHappy to hear you walked across the lake, that must have been fun. You are lucky to have a pal with the same interests to hang out with.
I look forward to hearing what you do next, in the interest of too much fun.
The new belt was put on in Rockport before I left a few weeks ago. The tensioner was not replaced. Only the alternator was replaced.
DeleteI would say that was a lot to pay for a Heavy Duty Alternator that sits on top and is easy to change, BUT my wife lowered the window on our old car last night and it will not go back up. The motor runs and makes grinding sounds. I have a apt tomorrow to have it fixed an a estimate of $ 650.00. We are traveling and rain is in the forecast, so it is just the cost of having too much fun.
DeleteGlad to hear you were treated well at the Del Rio dealership. I need to take a page from your book and start exercising and/or buy me a new bike.
ReplyDeleteYep the gentle but long exercise sure helps me.
DeleteYour picture of the plant with the red fruit would be a succulent to a botanist. However, it sure looked like a cactus to me and a horticulturist would exclude it from being called a succulent if it were a cacti.
ReplyDeleteGood you got your truck repaired with the necesary stuff to be able to use it, sorry about the money you paid to have it done.Sometimes the universe is telling us something or another, I ride a bike and walk each day, I don't drive, if I need to get to point a and b I take a bus it is cheap and fast they know me one time I forgot my pass they let me ride back and forth to fetch my stuff it was christmas eve and the lady bus driver handed out cookies to us few in the early morning hours, I got her a nice big box of truffles from See on New Years eve, hopped that bus and she cried, she works all the holidays is alone and the same age as our only child, I invited her to supper that night she enjoyed herself, went home full of good food and also worked on New Year's day..why not be nice to people who work and work damn hard and are alone..The plant looks like the prickly pear that is sacred to native americans and is good for the body and mind..ony they grow up in high bush tops, but look just like the prickly pear of arizona..enjoy your truck, happy halloween and happy holidays too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteCactus yes. Prickly pear, no way.
ReplyDeleteHowdy Barney,
ReplyDeleteYour 'succulent' is an algerita, we have them all over our ranch fencelines, planted by the birdies!! They deer love them!!
Yep, it sure is costing a lot of $$$ these days to keep your transpotation going, but $650 against $40,000 ain't too bad, but it sure does make having toooo much fun expensive!!!
