Adventure Location: Fort Davis to Seminole Canyon State
Park, Texas
WOW it was an exciting evening last night. In an upper loop of the Davis Mountains State
Park where the Teams spent the night was a travel trailer that looked familiar.
It turned out to be that great blogger GUMO.
He had been at the park for a couple of days.
We had a nice conversation and since it was dark and he is a wonderful
gentleman, he offered to take me back down to the Castle in his truck. That way the OFM did not have to worry about
fighting any rattlesnakes during his walk back down the hill to the Castle. If you
ever cross paths with him you will enjoy the visit.
The Teams left on the next leg of the journey back to our
prepaid site in Rockport about 0830 this morning. The OFM was not feeling too frisky but the
Teams rolled anyway. Everything went
fine and traffic was almost nonexistent on the highways. A little before noon
the heat hit with a vengeance. We had also dropped about 3000 feet of
elevation. By 1330 it was miserable hot.
The trucks we saw were leaving tire ruts in the hot asphalt road. The Teams took a vote and decided to get off
the road at Seminole Canyon SP near Comstock.
We are the only FRV (fried recreational vehicle) in the
campground. About 1730 the OFM made a silly mistake and went out for a
walk. It was a very short walk. Back at the Castle we checked the temperature
at Rockport and it was 90. We checked the temperature in Comfort and it was
106. It is not surprising that from when the AC on the Castle was turned on
right after we got set up, that it still has not cycled even once and it is now
1845. The hot dry wind is rocking us around
fairly violently.
For now the plan is to roll out early and try to get most
of the next leg of the journey over before the heat gets too bad. Soon we will
be back in Rockport where the humidity makes certain you need a bath every
night. But at least the morning temps will let you hit the fishing areas for
trying to have tooooo much fun. TheOFM.
That is the most beautiful header picture. You sure have a photographer's eye for unusual and beautiful pictures. This one is suburb!!!
ReplyDeleteComing down from high elevations this time of year can cause heat exhaustion (grin).
It was surprising to me how hot it was at 7600 feet. Mornings were 43 or so but by noon it was hot and the afternoons were in the mid 90s at Datil and slightly hotter at Valley of Fires.
DeleteThat is such a beautiful picture.
