Datil Campground

Adventure Location: Datil, New Mexico
Teams Location:  Datil Well Recreation Area, New Mexico

After three hours on the road it was nice to see the destination sign beckoning the Teams to a nice campground.  This campground is much better than any internet site led me to believe. It is highly recommended for peace and tranquility.

The road to the campground is short but definitely has character. The old fencing and rocks could make for some pretty pictures for a real artist.  After only a quarter mile of this nice gravel road the entrance to the campground was ready for us.

Since the Ofm had never been here before and his senile old mind could not remember what the campground layout was like, the Teams took the first site that we thought we could get level in.  It has turned out to be a very nice location with a good breeze coming in the office area window.

The view from the office area window is rather pleasant also.

On my walk back to the visitor center was a row of flowers that had attracted a lot of butterflies of one species.  The camera finally was able to catch a couple of them in action.  Their coloration was rather good to my eye.

The visitor center is a small high peaked building with a surprising amount of stuff inside.  The case on the right has loaner books for your use. Several racks and the desk have brochures for things to do in the surrounding area. The case in the corner houses artifacts of all sorts that have been found in the area.

The entire campground is attractive and well maintained. Several restrooms are scattered around the campground.  Water faucets are available for your water requirements.  There is no dump station or electric for an RV.  However this area is so nice it makes me glad that the Castle has a solar electric system to allow the Teams to stay here.
Tomorrow will be a day of exploring as much has my body will allow. It is tough when your body gets in the way of trying to have tooooo much fun. TheOFM.

    1. Nope. Several of the NM state parks do not have dump stations. City of Rocks and Oliver Lee are two of them.
