If you would like to learn a lot about flat bike tires
and why they go flat please see the following link. And if you laugh yourself
silly it is not my fault.

One of the wayward packages that we have been waiting on
came in yesterday evening. Today was
installation day.
Since the riding that was done in Bibe a few weeks ago,
it has been known that SightSeer needs a lower gearing to ride those types of
locations. Yesterday’s package had the
solution in it.
A new 26 tooth chain ring for Sightseer (SS) is the
answer, we hope. The first thing was to take the chain loose without getting
that ugly grease/dirt all over everything.
Bicycle chain grease is the nastiest grease in the world. Paper towels are a great help in this effort.
Next the center bolt is removed from the crank arm. It loosened easily since it had been greased
lightly last time it was reinstalled.
Next the crank arm assembly has to be pulled off the
bottom bracket. DO NOT TRY TO USE A
HAMMER TO KNOCK IT OFF. Use a proper
tool for the job. Hammers break things
on bicycles. It is nice how Park Tool
Company paints their tools to match SS.
Now that we have the crank arm free it is over to the
picnic table to change out the chain rings.
The old chain ring mounts on the outer mounting points and the new chain
ring mounts on the inner mounting points.
Here you can see the difference in the size of the chain rings.
The old ring came off easily and the new ring went onto
the spider like it was supposed to. What
a surprise??? Then we reversed the steps
from above and tightened things gently but firmly. Notice in this next picture
how small the new chain ring seems to be.
A good while back SS had been converted from a 3X9 drive
to a 1X9 drive. That is why no other
chain rings are used.
A test ride proved that the new gearing is a lot lower
than the previous chain ring allowed. If it is low enough we will not know
until some serious hills are encountered. It is nice to be finished with that twenty minute job that took an hour and a half.
SS just had to pose to show how ready it is for some
serious trying to have tooooo much fun. TheOFM.
