Teams Location: Seminole Canyon State Park, Texas
At bedtime it was the plan to go to Lake Somerville for a
day or two. The morning started well but
hot at sunrise. The Castle was readied
and coupled up to the Truck. The OFM
hopped in and suddenly there was a loud chorus of “Grab him!” My tattoo grabbed my ankles; the Truck
steering wheel apprehended my hands and the Castle hollered “Let’s Go”. It
seems that the mob had decided that they were not going to Lake
Somerville. All the OFM was allowed to
do was pay for diesel fuel twice during the trip and shut up.
350 miles later we took a campsite with electricity since the day is
hot. Tonight is supposed to be down to 65 but it is hot for now. For any one going west past Del Rio, the loop
97 around Del Rio is open now and saves a lot of time and hassle. The ranger lady was nice enough to let the
OFM Teams have the prime site in the park E1.
It is long enough that we did not have to uncouple and also is
reasonably level. This will make for a
quick start in the morning.
From my campsite could be heard the sounds of a wind chime
of sorts. The OFM Meandering Team went looking for it since there is no one
camped in the direction the sound is coming from. Along the way the Team found
several interesting items. We will show you two of them.
The first is this
yellow flower that seemed to be actually glowing in the sunlight. It was beautiful.
Many of the bushes are setting seeds. This particular bush has long skinny beans
that are quite colorful. Yep my hand did
get a couple of scratches handling the beans for the picture.
The chime sound kept on calling us and we kept on
tracking it. Winding around through the stickers
and thorns and being ever watchful for rattlesnakes, we finally found the
origin of the music. Someone had hung a wooden
ball from the lantern support. It was
bouncing from the support at the whim of the winds. It was left in place since the sound was
rather melodious to me.
From there the Team took a different route back toward
the Castle. However we were intercepted
by a rather nice old gentleman wanting to talk as we walked. It was a great visit with a fellow of many
neat experiences around the world.
A mystery solved and a great conversation certainly helps
when you are trying to have tooooo much fun. TheOFM.
The best of two worlds, natural scenery and an old guy to talk to. Doesn't get much better than that unless you got to chat with a few young bikini clad gals.
ReplyDeleteHowdy Barney,
ReplyDeleteBig Bend or Mew Nexico??? Not much fishing out thataway.. Dryer & cooooler though!! The only thing about going back out there is how far you have to go to get back to RP!! Maybe it's time to go on a little further, Utah or Colorado or ALASKA!! They fish in Alaska; king salmon 75# and fight a bear for it..YEAH!!
Oh well, it was a brainstorm, anyway.. I'm just riding along, so whereever we wind up suits me fine, because you don't like to sweat, either! I'll catch us a big rattler and we can bar-b-q
it and have some great eating.. Good as spot-tail trout..
This is coming from a rest area between Sanderson and Marathon right now. Not to far from Bibe actually. I don't know which way I will go until I get to wherever I get to.
ReplyDeleteheh heh LOVE how you got abducted by your RV and just HAD to keep on going.
ReplyDeleteSometimes that happens to me, but not often enough. There is a horrible thing called a Calendar that keeps dragging us back for some dreaded Monday through Friday workday torture.
(47 more weeks till we retire!)

Howdy Barney,
ReplyDeleteToo bad you're not in Georgia with Billy Bob helping to redo the inside of da house.. No, it would be better if you kept BB
out under the trees drinking coffee and diet sodas.. But it gets hot and sweaty down there, well not in the mornings.. Okay, that is some birdnest in the header; eagle, osprey or chee-chee bird??
Nice flower. It all looks so hot to me. I am not sure I could enjoy it but I do love to look at the desert from air conditioning. And this is really the best way, by picture. Thanks for sharing.
