Teams Location: Rockport, Texas
The morning was a decent temperature and the wind was
moderate from the north. AHHH It was a great day to head for the beach. The Teams never made it to the beach.
As usual we stopped at the Port Aransas jetty to check it
out.
The water on the beach side was alive with fish so the
Fishing Team took the lead and out on the jetty we went. One nice thing about
the jetty there is always some small boats running around to entertain you.
A spot was chosen for standing close to the water but out
of the wave action zone. The silver spoon arched out over the water.
Kerplunk. And almost immediately a fish
hit the spoon. There was not a hook up
this time but the scene was repeated over and over for more than an hour. Hardly a cast went by without a bite on a
spoon.
After a few tries one small fish was landed.
This Bluefish
was only about 9 inches long but had a six foot attitude. Their mouth is not one to put a finger
into. When the fish moved on, another
hour was spent trying to entice some more fish to bite. We were not successful.
One interesting thing did happen. Two of the hooks of the treble hook on a
spoon had been removed to make unhooking fish easier. Something hit the spoon
hard and moved very fast. The fish got
away and when the spoon was reeled in the hook was straightened out.
After a bit the temperature was rising and the Teams had
a vote and decided to head on home to the Castle. While at the Castle sitting
at the big window what should appear but a “that Jeep” and BillyBob. We had a great visit and headed out for
lunch. After lunch we ended up at the
Rockport harbor jetty to do some fishing.
Wouldn’t you know it; on his first cast BB caught the
only fish of the afternoon. This was a
good eating size speck but we did not have a way to carry it home so it went
back into the water.
Once again that was the only fish caught and we put in
some hard time trying. Finally we gave
up and headed to the Castle. From there
BB headed home to get ready to roll and the OFM headed for a nap.
Taking a nap after a full day of fishing is getting
pretty close toward trying to have tooooo much fun. TheOFM.
Naps, I hated them as a kid but as an old person, I have to agree they add to the fun of the day.
