Bottom Comfort

Adventure Location Mustang Island State Park, Texas
Teams Location: Rockport, Texas

The State Park beach was in pretty good shape.  The northish very gentle north breeze had the surf nonexistent and the water very clear.  In fact my eyes have never seen it this clear along this beach. A good while was spent just visiting with folks out for the day in the beautiful weather.  Later in the afternoon it did get quite warm as the breeze quit and the sun intensified.  The Truck A/C did work very well to get us home to the Castle.
A neglected chore was attacked this evening.  The saddle on SightSeer had not been oiled since it was received way too long ago.  The saddle was brought inside and work began on it.

The brush was used to liberally apply several coatings of the oil to the rough side of the leather.  The few drips that ran to the finished side of the saddle were just gently rubbed into the leather.  The leather soaked it all up very readily. It seems that oiling the saddle needs to be done much more often.
There are lots of ideas of the “proper” product to use on my Brooks B-17 saddle. My choice was mineral oil so it could not contribute to mold or mildew.  One article on saddle care mentioned a fellow who does the “ultimate no-no” and uses 30wt motor oil.  It seems that his Brooks saddles fall apart after only 300,000 miles so it must be the wrong stuff.

The Brooks B-17 saddle is not cheap at a bit over $100.  For me it has proven to be the only comfortable bike saddle of the many that have been tried.  Believe me having a comfortable bottom when biking is a major step in trying to have tooooo much fun. TheOFM.

    Howdy OFM,
When I was a kid we rode our bikes to the creek to do some fishing and only had one speed to climb back up the hills to the house..
Of course, it was ALWAYS UP HILL FROM THE CREEK, because the hill ran down to the creek! If you would check out Vladimir Steblina's blog, usbackroads.com, you's see how easy his bikes are to climb mountains and go for 40 mile rides, in one day, without working up a sweat, unless you're in Texas or Arizony where it's over 100+ degrees!!! He doesn't even have to shift gears to climb the mountains.. Check it out!!

    1. BC, You are right, the electric powered "bicycle" is easy to ride, however I call them motorcycles. They have been around for over fifty years that I know of.
