Teams Location: Rockport, Texas
Several chores were finished today. The first one gave me a chance to check out
how the new pier was progressing toward being ready for fishing. When the Teams
left in February the pier seemed to have a lot left to do. It was a surprise to find it finished and
being used. It is a very nice pier that
actually is a jetty protecting the harbor from silting up so quickly.
A nice parking lot leads to the walkway on top of the
jetty. They did a really smart move when
they installed culverts in the dead end of the area to allow some flow into and
out of the dead end of the basin. It is
a nice L shape with lots of fishing room. From near the elbow looking in toward
the harbor you can see how nice it was done.
My path went out to the very end to see what there is to
see. Standing at the end looking back toward the parking lot allows you to see
your vehicle. In this case the Truck is
visible slightly to the right of the end of the jetty.
While still at the end of the jetty a picture was taken
back along the channel side of the jetty.
Along this side you can cast out into the harbor channel in your search
of fish. There was the head of a very
large gaff-topsail catfish resting in the rocks. If someone took the meat home
they had some very good eating.
Between the old jetty across the channel and this new
jetty there will be some very interesting currents and eddies created. Over the next few months it will be a challenge
to figure out exactly how to fish this area and the new currents.
Of course there were plenty of shore birds along the
rocks. This particular egret was very comfortable
with me being very close with the camera.
It is a small bird and the best that could be found on the internet
using my memory it is a snowy egret.
This jetty/pier will definitely be the site of some future
efforts at trying to have tooooo much fun. TheOFM.
It looks like a boat would have to navigate a maze to go either direction. That Egret is showing you where the fish are. I always watched the birds on a stretch of shore line that I didn't anything about.
ReplyDeleteIt is a Z entrance but even in very high winds the harbor is very settled. The highest waves I have seen in the harbor is about 9 inches.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a wonderful new place to go. Great to see public waterfront places improving for public use, rather than gating off and selling to private homes and hotels.
