On The Road

Adventure Location: Falcon Heights, Texas
Plans:
 Stillwell Store, TX. Mar. 01

Sleeping later than planned put the Teams on the road about 0915.  Then the very cold weather was a real mess for the whole trip.

With the weather and the late start we did not make it to Falcon State Park until nearly 1500. By the time the Castle was set up on the unlevel pad the OFM was cold, wet and hungry.

The Castle was 42 inside when the first heater was turned on.  It took a good half hour to get things inside warmed up, including me. After eating some good stuff it was time to look around the park and check the lake level.

The boat ramp was the first place checked.  The lake is something like twenty feet low now and the boat ramp shows it.  The normal level is up at the tree and bush line.  The boat in the picture was coming in.

The Team waited on the boat to see if they caught any fish.  Just a few they said.  Enough for supper was the story. Of course they had only been out since lunch so don’t expect much in fish OK.  The cold weather had really turned the fish off so they had some miserable weather to fight for their fish. The two fellows were from Oklahoma and Kansas.  They are staying in a motel in Falcon Heights. Falcon Heights has a motel now!  What a surprise that is!

They had limited out with Large Mouth Bass in the three to eight pound range.  Here is a picture of the fish waiting to be filleted.

Day after tomorrow it is supposed to be nice weather for a good while.  Hopefully an OFM can find something to do.

The Wi-Fi is at the entrance station and very weak.  All my pictures have been degraded to the smallest size available to aid in putting them into the blog.  For the next few weeks it is know that internet will be hit or miss so do not panic if there is not a post for a day or three. The writing will continue and be saved until Wi-Fi is available.  Then a whole batch will be published at once.

Now it is time to rest and recuperate for a new day of trying to have tooooo much fun. TheOFM.

  1. Oh brrrr, it was too cold today to even go outside. That only happened when it was necessary in the Houston area today. Did you get any of the fish for dinner?

Dang,I know exactly where you are if that store is the same small one that was there in the '80s.. I met Hallie a time or two in Alpine and when I did a Raft trip in the Rio Grande , on take out her place was the first place we stopped.

She was a legend down there even in the 80's
