Estimated Rolling Date: Feb. 12, 2012
The exact amount of driving done is not recorded. The amount of towing done is possible to estimate from the blog records. This morning the blog for 2011 was carefully gone through and mileage using Google maps distance measuring tool was estimated. The total for the year was 4200 miles. Let us add a couple of hundred miles for no good reason and use the number 4500 miles.
The towing cost runs $.41 a mile at the worst, usually a little less. That yields a total cost of towing the Castle for the year 2011 of $1845. Now The Budgeting Team has a number to use for planning for 2012 travels. The 2012 travels are starting out with very low mileage since the Teams are sitting in one place until mid-February.
There is serious hope that the travels will take a gentler pace in 2012. Last year there were a few FOUR HUNDRED MILE tows made. Then there were a couple of THREE HUNDRED MILE tows made. Of course when you are crossing west Texas it can be over a hundred miles between towns so some long tows will happen. The actual goal is a maximum of two hundred miles in a day. That gives the Team a four to five hour towing time without sightseeing along the way.
The wind since yesterday evening has kept the Castle moving about. Finally this afternoon my body just had to get out and do some walking. First we went to the Rockport Beach to check out how low the water is. Extremely low is the answer. Then some walking was attempted. Good grief the wind was trying to pull the whiskers out of my face. The wind chill was enough to be uncomfortable. Giving up on that area seemed the thing to do.
The next attempt, which was successful, was at the Memorial Park with the walking paths protected by trees from the winds. AHHHHH this is more like it. It is cool but not cold. A nice breeze was filtering through the trees but not blasting your skin. The ponds liked the rain of the last day or so and are up a few inches.
This is a 1.6 mile trail and my legs for some reason had enough with one lap of the place. Home is where the next effort took the Teams. Then a nap was taken. Apparently it was needed because my glasses never got a chance to be removed from my face before sleep overwhelmed me. But it was a great nap and very relaxing.
Tomorrow is maybe a golf day with BillyBob depending on how the weather behaves up in Sinton and his schedule. Sinton runs a good bit colder than here in Rockport. Sinton is only 25 miles north of here but a lot colder. Hopefully it will work out well because playing golf is a great way of trying to have tooooo much fun. TheOFM.

good to see you got some rains and the ponds are rising...
What speed do you average when you're traveling? Especially when you're driving the interstate where the speed limit can be 70 or even 80 m.p.h.? I'm just curious, since I haven't done much long distance travel with my trailer yet. The more information I have the better I can be at it.
The tires on the Castle are ST series tires--special trailer. ST tires are only rated to 65 mph. Most of my travels are at 55 to 60 mph. Never over 65. Check your trailer tires for their speed rating. When I am rolling to a new destination instead of goofing along, a 50 mph average speed is used for estimating arrival times. That usually takes care of necessity stops etc.
