Lot Of Towing

Adventure Location: Between Deming, NM and San Antonio, Texas

The Team was rolling about 9:30am MDT for the hour and a half drive to north of Las Cruces. At 7 pm CDT we pulled into an I-10 rest stop for the night. When we got to Las Cruces the wind was ripping the flags off the poles and dirt came in with the air when you inhaled. ENOUGH I CRIED. I AM TIRED OF EATING DIRT ALL DAY. So the Team stayed on I-10 and came back into Texas.

We kept rolling until the wind was not clouding the sky with dirt. By then we were to the area where the wildfires were smoking up everything.

So we kept rolling and rolling and rolling. Around Fort Stockton somebody sent the cavalry out to check on us.

We told them we were fine and kept on rolling and rolling.

Eventually my ability to drive safely was coming to an end when this rest area east of Bakersfield Texas came into view. With a little luck my body will get some rest tonight and be ready to roll in the morning. The view is not too bad is it?

Over 400 miles of towing in one day is not the way to try to have tooooo much fun. TheOFM.

  1. It's a bad pun, but towing can be a drag.

  2. Sure glad you found a place to hole up out of the wind. You were really pushing it driving that long huh?

Welcome back to Texas. Take your time in the morning, no one is expecting you to be anywhere at any set time.

    Be careful my friend.

  3. MU, the only goal was to get out of having to eat so much wind blown dirt. Now I can get back to meandering.

Ben you are correct. The normal places I stop sooner are all shut down because of the massive wildfires.

Sixbears, After four hours of towing I would have shut down if there had been a safe place from the wildfires.

  4. A wise man knows when "enough is enough" !

I made my decision not to go to NM this spring because its seems the weather pattern of lately seems to be really socked in.

You are deserving of a good rest and good meal out !

  5. Northern Arizona is really nice, especially around Flagstaff, this time of the year. From there you could have gone on up into southern Utah and Colorado. Now that is some nice country to meander around.

  6. 400 miles? Wow we use to drive like that but now we only do 200 to 250 the most. You must be dead stiff. We have friends about 10 miles from the big fire going on in TX. Scary stuff. Keep driving safe and hope for stressless time for ya...

  7. Bob, I agree that northern Arizona is nice but too high for me for more than a day or three.

Evielynne, I hope your friends place does OK. There are five major fires going on here in Texas I know of and two smaller ones down toward Del Rio that I found on todays trip.
