Adventure Location: Light House Lakes Park, Texas
The new batts are performing way beyond hopes. The old batts must have been much worse than was thought. It seems that maybe two batts will do the job for the boondocking.
The mild adventure was at LHL Park near the Port Aransas ferry landing. The Team was out looking for shore fishing locations when these photographs were taken. It was the usual bad winter weather, a miserable cold 63, bright sun and a light wind. One of my Christmas presents was a light jacket and it was perfect for the blizzard conditions this afternoon. Here was a spot chosen for serious consideration. The channel is only a hundred feet off the shore and leads down to the only pass to the Gulf for miles. It should be a good location to intercept fish with my lures.
The structure in the distance on the right is the Lydia Ann Lighthouse which is now privately owned.
Closer to the pass was this boat pulled up to the far shore while the passengers got out to play in the dirt. They were having a good time from the sound of the laughter floating across the water to me.
To my surprise a Man o War jelly fish was washed up on the shore near the Truck. Usually they wash up on the Gulf beach to attack unsuspecting folks. This one was about 3 inches in diameter and 7 inches long. The stings from these monsters hurt for days. Unless, of course, the pain makes you scratch the wounds then infections can really make a believer out of you. Years ago my arms found out about the stinging from one time when my shrimping net was being pulled in and some man o war tentacles were caught in the mesh. That was a day to remember for the rest of my life.
When you try your luck at fishing the saltwater marshes of Texas, this is one of the types of places you want to try.
It is where a large body of shallow marsh drains back into a deeper body of water. When the water is flowing, the catching takes place in and around the mouth of the drainage. This particular one is important to me since it is only about a ten minute paddle over to it from where the Truck would be parked to launch Puddle Boat. Lots of fishing and a little paddling makes for a great time at trying to have tooooo much fun. TheOFM.
You almost got me convinced to get a salt water fishing license. I have always enjoyed all types of fishing and have not done any for a few years.
ReplyDeleteAbout those Man o War jelly fish. I was wading fishing behind Galveston Island, catching speckled trout and having a good time. So, I got a BIG one the line and am backing slowly to the shore while fighting him, Suddenly My left leg, behind the knee felt like it was on fire!!! I had backed into one of those dammed things!! That's the day I found out urine will help numb the pain. as will Adolph's meat tenderizer.
ReplyDeleteBut it left big ole red whelps on the back of my left leg and around and down the front.. Painful!!!
Like me, you will never forget that special feeling of the Man O War tentacles loving embrace.
ReplyDeleteI, too, know the feeling. I was floating on my back enjoying the warm Gulf waters when I decided to head back to shore. I bent my legs back at the knees to flip over to a swimming position, and I caught a big one behind my knees. My wife said I was running on top of the water to get out of there. Dang that hurt.
