It amazes me often how nice the mid coast of Texas is for living and convenience. After a damp cold morning, the sun came out about nine am and started to get things warmed up. It looked like it would be a great afternoon to do wiring.
About ten the roof was still wet on the Castle, so a choice was made to go for a walk to loosen my legs that have been inactive for a few rainy days. The local community park sounded good as there was a brisk wind out at the beach park. My arrival was a few minutes before the big soccer game for little kids was finished. It was great fun watching the young enthusiastic player playing their heart out.
So tighten my shoelaces and off to the path for exercise. The first few hundred yards were stiffly done, but the knees slowly worked out the stiffness. By the end, the walking was nearly up to speed again. It was wonderful walking with 60 degree bright sun and a gentle breeze filtering through the live oaks. Around the exercise field and softball fields was refreshing. Then it was time for a right turn to head through the treed section and a screeching halt. The trail was under water. Ok short cut across the tennis court parking lot and head the other direction towards the lake.
Now we are motivating along with a brisk pace past the soccer fields and into the trees. Wonderful spring fragrances are wafting through the trees as all SPRING gets ready to cut loose. Up into the woods we go and find a friendly bird just birding around. It was having a wonderful time it seemed.
My path brought me within three feet of it and it just watched me for a moment. After the picture was taken, the bird seemed to realize it was ok to move on into the brush hunting for food.
My feet strode forward with vigor and excitement. Around a couple of more bends and Screeching halt again. More flooded pathways and this time a picture was taken. AHH much better than snow and ice. he he he
Since getting my feet wet was not my idea of a good time, a path around on the dirt trail that goes nearer to the lake was tried. It worked out wonderfully. A bench at the right spot provided me a place to retie my shoes and enjoy the scenery.
On the way back to the Truck, there was a little girl riding with training wheels but not really using them. As her mom passed by my comment was “looks like she is ready to get rid of the training wheels”. Mom agreed. While I was getting into my Truck, Mom was heard to say to the girl something about taking the training wheels off. The little girl was enthusiastic about that idea.
All right enough fun, now get to work. First thing was to start running the roof wiring. The next thing was to notice that the factory roof connection has just fallen apart in your hands. OH BOY another set back. So some thought was put into what path to take next and evacuation of the roof occurred.
OK now finish running the wire to the battery area. That turned out to be a nearly three hour job. The routing was very good, but every inch required a lot of effort. When the outside access hatch was finally opened the plan had to change. The wire routing was changed to go directly to the batteries instead of going to a terminal inside the hatch. A couple of more holes were drilled and the wire slowly routed on out to the batteries. Here is the visible part inside the under bed storage area.
For those who want to know, it was found out that my head fits into the area from the outside access doorway, but my chest is too thick. My fat belly did not even get to try out for the fit. The next try was to unpack the storage area, lift the bed and try to crawl into the needed spot from inside the Castle. That was also a tight fit. However success was mine and the wiring is routed out to the batteries now. Tomorrow will be the day for the connection to the batteries.
Late in the evening a trip to the hardware store resulted in the purchase of parts for the roof penetration. Tomorrow is supposed to be mid sixties and no rain. Having a roof penetration wide open with rain in the forecast would not be a great idea. Hopefully tomorrow night will have a report that the solar system is up and running.
This might sound like a lot of work, but it was actually a great day of trying to have tooooo much fun. TheOFM
