Do small adventures count???????????? Well that is what today brought for a present to me.
It was cool this morning and my knuckles did not like the idea of trying to control a fishing line. The sun was shining so a little ride to Lowe’s was made to check out an idea. The idea was a bust but the ride turned into a nice adventure.
Since the Truck was close to the Ransom Road kayak launch site, it took me there to check out the tides. The tides are back to normal. That is good. Even better there was small bait fish in the marsh. That means bigger fish soon.
My friends you are about to see a picture of a sight seldom photographed. But first the story.
While standing in the cold wind checking out the launch site, a white bird was noticed. It did not seem to be bothered by my presence on the shoreline. It kept on wading closer and closer. The camera kept up a steady stream of pictures. When the bird finally flew off it was only about four feet from me. WOW that was neat.
Here we have the bird on the hunt. It was a very good hunter because it caught several small critters during the fifteen minutes we were close to each other. It moved very quietly and efficiently.

The strike
When the catch was grabbed, the bird brought its head up slowly and paused before swallowing the catch. It was sort of like hurrying to the dinner table then taking your time to eat.

In the afternoon, the sun was raising the temperature enough that a walk down at the municipal park was looking good. Two laps were made before the knees started to complain. That works out to 3.2 miles according to the trail charts.
At one of the trail junctions is one of the many benches scattered along the trails. On this bench the trees sheltered it from the cool wind and the sun warmed it very nicely. A very pleasant fellow was laid out on the bench gathering some warm rays.
The nap
For those folks out of work and wanting a job, here is some good news. Kiewit (sp) here in Ingleside is over loaded with work for at least the next FIVE years and is in bad need of all kinds of workers. This fellow said they are not interviewing until after Jan 4, 2010. His group needs a couple of dozen folks. They are a manufacturing group of some sort and build ships, oil well platforms and lots of other things. Check them out on the internet. It certainly is nice to hear of work available for folks for a change.
Great pictures of a hunting bird and news of a lot of work for folks certainly made this a great day of trying to have tooooo much fun. TheOFM
