Long Walk On A Short Jetty

Rockport, Texas

It was already warm when my eyes opened this morning. A check on the weather showed the highest promise was a walk out on the Aransas Pass Jetty. Up to 30 mph winds sounded less hot than here inland a couple of miles. The clothing chosen was long sleeve and long pants of the hot weather type. The good news is no sunburn or wind burn. The bad news is that the wind was about three mph and the sun merciless.

The surf was very flat and the wave action away from the shore was nearly non-existent. That made hot sweaty walking. Not too far from the start of the jetty was a cute little bird that was new to me.

The orange-brown coloring was very pretty.

My guess is the jetty goes out about a half mile from shore. It is a difficult walk because of the very uneven surface and treacherous openings between the boulders. Here you can see the flat water. The swells were normally under one foot high.

All sorts of trash shows up on the jetties. Here is part of the transom and motor of a boat. It appears to have been here a long time.
As the walk neared the end of the jetty, this picture of a fisherman trying his luck makes a good shot. The birds were rafted up in a bed of vegetation out at the end of the jetty. The birds did not seem to be feeding on anything, just messing around in the vegetation.
At the end of the jetty one gets a great view of all sorts of boats and ships as they come in to Corpus Christi. This is the start of the channel that goes up to Corpus Christi. All the Corpus shipping comes right through here. Therefore the boat watching can sometimes be very good. This was taken at the very bitter end of the part of the jetty that sticks out of the water.

The north jetty is slightly shorter. Now we get to see our Coast Guard hard at work. Believe me that as hot as it is those folks on the deck of the boat are not having much fun.
The walk out and back seems like it is only about a mile, but my one liter bottle was empty before my return to the Truck. No body had caught any fish either.

The Truck A/C was blowing on me again by noon. It is that time in Texas where you get it done outside by noon if anyway possible. It will be before noon when this old fat man is outside trying to have tooooo much fun. TheOFM
