Fredericksburg, Texas
The air conditioner is still running and it is ten pm. When the truck arrived home after grocery shopping at 9:30 pm tonight, the truck thermometer read 88. Finally broke below 90. WOW. (Tamia take note).
Speaking of WOW. Here is a shot of the aftermath of the big oops of yesterday It certainly is interfering with the number eight tee box. A hike seemed like a good thing since the clouds were stopping the sun and a nice dry wind was blowing. The Wolf Mountain Trail was the target for today. My feet have covered the whole trail before and it has been done on my mountain bike also. It is not a difficult trail but the Texas heat can make it miserable.
At the start is the usual sign showing how nice it is to be hiking. Today’s goal was only to get to and from Bee Creek for a round trip of only two miles. It seemed a nice goal. The entry to the trail never seems to have any green to it. In the over thirty years of my visits to this park, the entry has always looked like it has been in a fire.
About a half mile into the trail there is a bench available to let you rest and decide if the trail will really be a good goal. The sun came out at the far point of my hike. It got very hot and this bench and the shade from the tree was a welcome relief pause on the way back.
At the bench is a neat sign telling about my favorite trees of all time. It was nice to learn some more about the Live Oak trees.
Near the bench was an arroyo with this interesting dead tree laying across it. Notice the cactus growing from the old rotting trunk of the tree.
Finally the destination was reached just as the sun started turning the trail into a long oven.
From a vantage point near the trail crossing of Bee Creek is this view of a pond in the creek. It surprised me to find water in the creek since most of the area is very dry.
The trip back to the truck was slow and HOT. When the truck was started the thermometer read only 95, but then the truck was parked in the shade. Out on the trail with the solar input, it seemed a lot hotter than any 95.
Back at Comfort Castle there is not any rest for the weary. In order to keep from getting beaten like a bad drum tomorrow, some more golf practice was required. Yes it was still very hot.
When you are a Texan you don’t let a little thing like the sun boiling the blood in your brain keep you from trying to have tooooo much fun. TheOFM

Barney, picked up your blog from The Field Lab, started read'n, am enjoying your adventures. I also travel with a 35' motorhome and a little red Bronco II, plus a couple pedigree Heinz dogs.
I just finished a Texas trip where Fredericksburg was my first destination. Played a round at the golf course there....missed playing in Comfort. If ya get to Steven F. Austin SP, play there. Wonderful course.
Like them pics you post.
Tamia took note, Barney! WOW! I'll come back and re-read this post in January, when the thermometer reads below zero. Then I'll say AHHHHH
