Rain Again In The Desert

Del Rio, Texas
Every evening after dark we have a lightening storm with a little rain. Last night about 4 am was a rain storm with a little lightening. That is nine nights in a row in the middle of the low desert. What a weather pattern this is!!!!

The visit to the NPS this morning went well. After explaining about the pictures I took of the folks on jet skis misbehaving, the office ranger called in a Law Enforcement ranger to get the pictures and facts. He was a nice fellow who seemed to take it very serious the misbehaving that was going on. He said he had seen the rig headed to the boat ramp while on his way to check out a drug smuggling tip and figured that they might not behave just properly. They now have large JPG copies of the photos that lets them read license plates on vehicle and trailer. I think some body is in for a rude surprise some evening.

The visitor center has a lot of neat stuff on display not the least of which is the largest bass weighed in from Amistad and the five runner ups. Two of them I did not get a picture of. They are in a display case right at the front door. Both are a little over fifteen pounds each and fairly impressive. As I was standing there two fellows came in to get the boat use permit for the lake. They both paused to look at the display and I told them that those were the “throwbacks” from the last tournament. They kind of looked funny and did not know what to say. The ranger finally told them the real story that they were the fifth and sixth largest bass weighed in from the lake.

After they got the required permits, the ranger took us all to see the first ranked four bass. This is the shot of number one and right after the tag on the mounting.

The others are mounted on the wall above the largest to make an impressive display. The center is small but well worth stopping by to see the short video and the other displays.

The artifacts on display are not real old items. The arrow heads and things like that are made by a flint knapper here in town for the NPS. By law if they were the real originals the display cases would have to be specially climate controlled and secured against serious threat of theft. The cost of that is way out of the NPS budget for this park.

My body was not feeling exactly well so most of the day was spent piddling and cleaning things. For lunch I went to the New China Buffet again and had a huge lunch for under seven dollars. The food is fairly decent and the meats are cooked well. Actually this noon time turned out to be a good time for people watching while I was eating. For desserts they have apple pie which I have not tried and eight flavors of scoop your own ice cream which I personally guarantee two of them are excellent.

Late this evening I took my usual walk down to the ramp and back, but I had to stop twice on the way back from not feeling well. Nothing in particular was bothering me, but I needed to rest a moment. Do you think it is possible that the long hill got a lot steeper than yesterday and that is my trouble????

Meanwhile I am sitting here in the home listening to the rain pitter -patter on the skylights and watching the light show over the border in Mexico at Cuidad Acuna, thinking about having tooooo much fun tomorrow. TheOFM.
